Jennie-O has a new Switch To Turkey Burgers Promotion.  Jennie-O sent a food truck to NY to show people how tasty turkey burgers could be and to convince them to make the switch to turkey over other burgers. For dinner, we tried out Jennie-O Turkey Burgers and let me tell you, they get an A+ from my family.  No, they don’t taste like beef hamburgers, they don’t taste like vegetarian Luna Burgers, they don’t taste like bison burgers, they taste like Jennie-O Burgers, delicious in their own right.

I like all of their suggestions and pairings.  These look like great sandwiches – but I put together my own fresh garden turkey burger, using fresh basil pesto-mayo, fresh tomato, basil- tomato cheddar cheese and Jennie-O turkey burger.  It was really tasty, the family loved it. So, would we switch to lean, delicious Jennie-O from our regular burger?  Well, no, because we don’t have one regular burger, but we’re willing to add it to the lovely list of burgers that we enjoy!

I once asked my husband for a mixer and the frugal guy researched and bought me a nice compact hand mixer. Yeah, it’s like getting a hatchback with manual controls when you want the sedan with all the bells and whistles.  True as that is, the hand mixer was a good gift and my valiant steed for the last ten years.  It still works well, however, whenever I look at my new shiny red stand mixer I know I’ll be less likely to pull out the old one when I need to use a mixer.

Let me tell you about this red hot hunk of mixing love.  It’s sturdy – if it falls on you, it might break a toe.  It doesn’t move around on the counter, because the tinygripper feet grab the counter.  My daughter told me that just because I can leave my mixer unattended, doesn’t mean I should.  I can though, it doesn’t go anywhere.  It locks in the upward position, or down – it doesn’t really bounce, so it won’t pop out of the bowl.  It is loud – noisy, cause it’s got power – ten speeds and 400 watts of mixing power.  It comes with stuff – a wire whisk, a dough hook, and a flat beater blade. It also had two bowls that lock in  – one with a handle. The head tilts back all the way, so you can get to your bowl easily.  My husband was most impressed with the light – the light that shines down into the bowl so that you can see exactly what is going on in the bowl. There was one little piece I couldn’t figure out.  This little hidden spot behind the Kenmore logo in the front.  I read the instruction manual to find that the attachments that fit another name brand stand mixer will fit and work with my new Kenmore Elite.  Yay!  Those of you not wanting to buy separate food mills, can get an attachment made by another brand that will work just fine to smoosh your tomatoes.  Way cool.

The first thing I made was cinnamon rolls.  That’s one thing I never attempted with my other mixer because I knew it was too much work so I used the bread machine instead.  This Stand Mixer rocked the dough without a hitch.  Then I swapped bowls and made the icing.  I intentionally left the lumps in the powdered sugar and left the mixer alone.  I made smooth creamy cinnamon roll icing, the perfect topping for cinnamon rolls.  I’ll keep you updated with my mixing love as I go along, but I totally recommend it for a holiday gift for a loved one.

Mini-Munchers -  a cool resource for choosing kid friendly restaurants in NYC.  Now this tool has one more cuisine choice, Organic.

Rolling Stone Restaurant & Lounge to preview with  AMA After-Party On Sunday, November 21.

Capturing the edgy-yet-elegant spirit of one of the world’s most iconic music magazines, Rolling Stone – a new restaurant and lounge concept – will open its flagship at Hollywood & Highland by hosting the VIP afterparty for the American Music Awards (AMAs) on Sunday, November 21.  Previewing the space through the official launch event planned for early 2011, Rolling Stone/Los Angeles (RS/LA) marks the first-ever licensing of the Rolling Stone name for an American restaurant.

Napoleon Bon Appétit - is a web series that launches on November 17th.

The new web series features Napoleon (Derek Houck, “Super Undead Doctor Roach,” “Absent”) and his Kitchen Wench (Katherine Browning, “The Carpenter”) as the hosts of their own cooking show. The pair will be serving up a new recipe every two weeks on Somebody’s Basement (www.somebodysbasement.com) and www.NapoleonBonAppetit.com. • Lea & Perrins has a Home Cooking Challenge:

Simply create a home cooking video showing how easy it is to make a flavorful dish with Lea & Perrins® Worcestershire Sauce and tell us why your recipe helps you "shine at dinnertime." Enter the challenge at www.ShineatDinnertime.com (hosted on FoodNetwork.com) from October 11 through November 14, 2010, and show just how easy it is to make a flavorful dish with the famous Lea and Perrins sauce.

The top six videos will be posted to the contest site and America will vote to choose the best home cooking video. One Grand Prize winner will win $10,000 and an in-person meeting with Food Network Host Claire Robinson. Another five runners-up will win $1,000 each.

 

• The Hershey Company is offering baking enthusiasts a sweet opportunity to host one of 1,000 Hershey’s Cookie Exchange Parties.

From now until November 15, consumers are encouraged to visit HersheysCookies.com to apply for a chance to host a party and receive an event pack filled with all the necessary cookie exchange ingredients. All holiday hosts and bakers can also visit the new HersheysCookies.com site to share delicious cookie recipes and photos with each other, as well as find tasty cookie recipes and cookie exchange tips from Hershey’s Kitchens.  To sweeten their baking efforts, each person who visits the site between now and January 15 can also enter the Bake Share and Win™ promotion, which will reward one lucky grand prize winner with the ultimate baking gift – a kitchen makeover for themselves and for a friend.

 

• Michigan – Foodie Giveaway – Enter their sweepstakes and get a chance to win a foodie destination trip to Ann Arbor Michigan. The sweepstakes entry period ends 11:59:59 p.m. ET on November 21, 2010.
