Here are a couple of recipes from Krups  – this isn’t a review for Krups as I’ve never tried their product, but I’m in a coffee mood and it’s National Coffee Day.  It’s too late for that morning cup, so I’ve decided to share some espresso cocktails for your evening relaxation enjoyment.

Hey Mint Lovers Join June’s Culinary Smackdown

June 30, 2012 - Written by Diana

I chose mint as the theme for this month’s culinary smackdown  – see the rules in a previous post.  Basically you enter your recipe in the smackdown, then I choose a winner with a roundup of all the recipes.  The next winner gets to host next month’s smackdown and choose next month’s ingredient or theme.

Since I’ve been on vacation for the last ten days in Crawford, Co, I am going to reshare my drink of 2011 – Peach Mint Vodka Cocktail.  I still need to come up with this year’s drink, this is a good one though and it has yummy mint. Link up below with your minty entries.  I am extending the date to the 3rd since I won’t be home until then anyway.  I will choose the winner and post on the 4th.

Here it is:

Friday Unwind – Frozen Strawberry-Basil Margarita

May 26, 2012 - Written by Diana

Strawberry and Basil together are fantastic.  I love the combination of sweet and herb and with a little tequila, it kicks it up to a fun summer drink. Basil is such a great summer herb.  It’s a tender perennial, so won’t last the winter in Ohio, but in the south you may be able to grow it all year long if you keep picking the flowers off.  Make the simple syrup using sugar and water and then steep the basil in it.  You can also throw leaves in the blender with the strawberries to add a little more basil flavor.

You can make this frozen or put the strawberries into the simple syrup with the basil and make it a nice cocktail without the fruit slush.  This is great for your memorial day weekend, up the quantity and make a whole blenderful to share.  Use soda instead of alcohol and you can make a fun non-alcoholic drink.

Chocolate Raspberry Vodka Cocktail – Friday Unwind

May 11, 2012 - Written by Diana

When I get to play with Chocolate Raspberry Infused Vodka by Godiva, I am one of the luckiest people around.  This was sent to me to try out and I love it, vodka with chocolate and raspberry.  Not one of the sticky sweet liqueurs, but a clear vodka (5 times distilled) with chocolate and raspberry infused in it.  It is a little sweet, you don’t need a simple syrup to go with it, but can drink it straight on the rocks.  This would go great for a mother’s day gathering.  If my mom, my sisters and I were sitting around after dinner looking for cocktails, this would be fun to hang out and mess around with.  This vodka might be good to soak some brownies in or maybe use to make the icing.

I didn’t want a foamy or thick drink to use this infused vodka as an ingredient in.  I wanted a clearish drink, with some berries, ice and fizzy added.  I came up with a decent drink, that my husband …

Friday Unwind – Yummy Citrusy Spring Fever

March 23, 2012 - Written by Diana

Tonight’s drink brought to you by Ketel One Citroen Flavored Vodka – a lemony, limey floral tasting vodka.  I liked this one a lot, not sweet, but has a dry crisp citrus flavor.  This is not lemonade in a bottle, it doesn’t have a sugar or saccharin finish, but finishes with a lemon/lime floral note.  My husband and I both liked the sip plain and then we tried Spring Fever and loved that too. I think you could have it for breakfast, it’s so yummy.

My photo looks pinkish because I used a blood orange – and don’t you think it’s a very pretty drink with that blood orange.  Makes you think of cherry  or apple tree blossoms.

St. Patrick’s Cocktails

March 17, 2012 - Written by Diana

I’m starting early, cause it’s Friday and I’ve had a long day – a really good amazing day at work because things went well, but I worked a couple of hours over, so I needed a drink or two.  Since St.  Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, then you can go ahead and drink for the whole weekend – um, if you plan to stay in.  Just make sure to stock up on all of the good stuff ahead of time.  Here are a few cocktail recipes for you to try out and if you want a nice sub for Bailey’s (it will take a few minutes longer to get to that cocktail) try Homemade Irish Cream by Wine Me Dine Me in Cincinatti.

Pot O’Gold

Ingredients:

Swirl caramel around the inside of a martini glass and put to side.
Pour Baileys with a hint of Caramel, Ketel One, ice and espresso into
a shaker and shake until very frothy.
Strain into Caramel swirled mar tini glass, making sure that the foam
is on top to make it look like a cappuccino.

Paw Paw Pineapple Cocktail

September 30, 2011 - Written by Diana

Since I’m into paw paws, I’ll re-post the recipe for my Paw Paw Pineapple Cocktail.

I put the paw paw and the pineapple juice into the bullet and blended it, added the soda and stirred then added the vodka to the right strength.  This is yummy.

I made my new favorite cocktail tonight.  I’ve tried it a few times, and it always comes out tasty.  It’s a refreshing summery peach drink that finishes with mint, so so good.

National Rum Day – and Las Fresas Cocktail Recipe

August 16, 2011 - Written by Diana

August 16th is National Rum Day – I kind of thought every day is National Rum Day, but no, it is only on August 16th.  I also think Talk like a Pirate Day and National Rum Day should coincide, but that day comes around in the fall.  So, enjoy this cocktail provided by Zacapa Rum, but don’t talk like a pirate.  For this cocktail you could probably substitute any fresh in season fruit for the strawberries.  We have some peach nectar we just made that we will be sipping.
