Cool Giveaway: Introducing The Wine Holder
By: DebIn Contests and Giveaways, Gadgets, Wine, Product Reviews on April 21st, 2008
Cookerati is happy to participate in the Bloggy Giveaways this week. We hope to have a couple of cool products for you, and here’s the first:
My husband and I enjoy both wine and new gadgets so we were kind of tickled when we received The Wine Holder to review. The Wine Holder is such a simple design, yet it’s so cool everyone will ask where you got it.
In essence The Wine Holder is a piece of wood with a hole on top and a 45 degree angle on either end. These angles allow The Wine Holder to sit on your bar or countertop or dining room table without taking up a lot of room. They’re sturdy enough to hold a full bottle of wine, yet small and lightweight enough to store in your utensil drawer.
The Wine Holder gets two big fat thumbs up from Cookerati. Let the brain behind the product tell you a little about it:
How would you like to win a set of three Wine Holders?
As with all contests, I make you work for it. I learned my lesson with the Magic Bullet and Hansen’s giveaways however. No more one word hit and run comments from people who never plan on visiting us or our sponsors again. We’re building a community, people. So, if you want to win a set of Wine Holders, you have to do a little better than a one word answer. It’s all about interaction. To win, recommend your favorite wine. Tell us why you like it. Is there a particular food that goes best with it? Is there a story behind the wine? Amusing anecdote? Post your recommendations in the comments and the best one wins the trio.
The contest ends Saturday, April 26, 2008. Good luck!

What a great design! I can’t wait to win so I can display my favorite bottles instead of hiding them away.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:59 pm
My favorite wine is Blackstone’s Merlot. We like to drink it when we cook steaks. It is an inexpensive wine that is great to entertain with. We first tried this wine on a trip to California. My husband and I went to a very nice italian restaurant in Dana Point and ordered a bottle. We didn’t have any children then so it brings back memories.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Nicodemi 2003 “Dei Colli Venia” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is my favorite wine!
I love the fruity blueberry and cherry hints and it’s certainly a velvety chocolate texture.
A true delight.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Ollie by Novy winery in California. It’s a very sweet dessert wine.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Would love to win this for my older brother who is having a birthday June. He is like the movie “Sideways” with wine.
Thanks.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Every year, I choose an “official wine of summer”. It is the wine that will accompany me on afternoons on the back deck or watching big budget movies on T.V. throughout the summer. It has to be light, inexpensive, and easy to find. This year, I have chosen the “No” Savignon Blanc. I discovered this little $10 gem at a recent wine tasting.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I love Barefoot Merlot, especially with a pasta dinner!
April 21st, 2008 at 9:54 pm
We love Willamette Valley Vineyards Reisling from Oregon. We tend to drink it with everything, but I’m sure it goes better with fish and chicken.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Nice recommendations, all! I especially love the wines under $10!
@Melissa - My husband and I don’t care if we’re using a wine with it’s perfectly paired food. We just care that it tastes good!
Here’s my recommendation, for about $12.00 it’s inexpensive and it’s wonderful chilled in the summer. Pronto Bello Pinot Grigio. It’s light, fruity and not too sweet or dry. A chilled bottle is perfect on a hot summer evening.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Ooo I would love to win because my 21st birthday is in 18 days… but since it is not my 21st I cannot recommend my favorite wine…heh
April 21st, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Mogan David.
April 21st, 2008 at 10:41 pm
My favorite wine is Cinnabar’s Mercury Rising. It’s a really nice Bordeaux blend with cab sauvignon, merlot, cab franc and petit verdot. It’s available in the Bay area and pairs well with all kinds of food. I find it particularly delicious with pasta and my own marinara sauce, and a piece of warm sourdough baguette.
I hope I win!!!

Paul Lehrner Blaufränkisch Qualitätswein Trocken Mittelburgenland Gfanger Classic 2003 - made in Austria.
I found this in the hugest wine store in Jacksonville. It’s rated a 90 by the Wine Specator and it was $18.
Stunning aromas of raspberry and blackberry echo on the palate. This vibrant, balanced red won’t last a long time, but if you like purity and focused fruit in a medium-bodied profile, this one’s for you. Drink now through 2008. 2,100 cases made. –BS
It’s a very nice red and generally the Austrians don’t do much red wine. It’s a very good mix of quality and price. I highly recommend it.
April 22nd, 2008 at 12:18 am
Fat Cat, you won;t find it easy, very smal production, exquisite.
April 22nd, 2008 at 12:22 am
My favorite wine is Sherwood Estate Pinot Noir - We always drink it on our anniversary each month. It was the first wine that we had together as a couple.
April 22nd, 2008 at 12:31 am
I love Manischewitz Cream Peach. It is a dessert wine. It is very good over vanilla ice cream and mixed with chanpagne too.
April 22nd, 2008 at 1:32 am
love a great white whine
April 22nd, 2008 at 1:57 am
Okay, I’m here to try and win these for my in-laws, so I apologize for not being a wine-phile. My favorite wine is the kind in a blue bottle that someone else drinks all up for me so I can have the pretty blue bottle!
April 22nd, 2008 at 2:27 am
My favorite wine is Brotherhood Riesling, a superb NY state wine
April 22nd, 2008 at 2:43 am
My favorite wine is Hugel & Fils Riesling from Alsace (fantastic with fish and brie). On our visit to Riquewihr, France last year we took a tour of this winery and saw barrels (still in use) dating back to the 1700s. Learning the history of the winery was as fun as the tasting - ongoing fighting over the country’s borders meant people were constantly hiding in the wine cellars for protection and drinking up the profits!
April 22nd, 2008 at 3:00 am
I work at a wine specialty store and would love a set of these, as well as to refer all my friends and family here to see where i got them!
April 22nd, 2008 at 3:32 am
My favorite wine would have to be Southing Pinot Noir. I had it when I dined at Daniel in NYC. It was the best wine to ever grace my palate.
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:55 am
LOL Tickle Pink Ripple……….lots of memories from decades ago!!!!
April 22nd, 2008 at 5:38 am
i love Blackstone’s cabernet … delicious and inexpensive!
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:47 am
I’m not good with wine names, but I sure like it. I drink anything a resturant has depending on my mood. Mostly reds though. Thanks for the great giveawya this looks awesome!
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:50 am
My new favorite wine is a sparkling chardonnay called Risque by Toad Hollow. Very fruity & sweet - just like me!
I just think those wine holders are the coolest things! Hope I win!
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:14 am
One of the best wines that I’ve had is made by a Circle S Vineyards. It’s a blackberry port called Mora Porto. It’s a dessert wine that my parents recommended. Yummy. Not exhorbitantly priced.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:13 am
Don’t laugh…just try it! Cat’s Phee on a Gooseberry Bush. It is a really tasty Sauvignon Blanc that has some amazing fruity tones. I am not sure what it would be best paired with since I tend to drink it with most anything but my guess is that it would work well as a desert wine since it has such an array of fruity tones. I just really enjoy the crisp and light flavor with everything personally. It runs $10 and I buy it at Cost Plus.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:18 am
I have seen this design a few times and am always amazed by how it looks and wonder who came up with it. I would love to give it to my husband for his birthday.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:51 am
I love Asti Spumanti. I first had it when I was about, oh, 17 (hehe) and at a special Valentine’s dinner with a group of my friends. I’ve loved it ever since!
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I just bought a case of Smashed Grapes Merlot from the Discount Grocery. It is actually quite good.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:28 pm
nice
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:29 pm
My favorite wine is Piesporter by Jakob Demmer. A dry white that goes great with brie cheese and fruit. I don’t have any place to display my wine’s and love this design & would love to win it. thank you…..
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:29 pm
My husband and I are big fans of chianti wines. When we were vacationing in Italy he burst out laughing during dinner once for no apparent reason. I asked him what was so funny and he said he just realized he was eating lamb liver with fava beans and a bottle of chianti. We’re also big fans of The Silence of the Lambs.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm
I love Smoking Loon Chardonney and Smoking Loon Pinot Noir. The chardonney is crisp and light and goes great with seafood, chicken, or a large salad. The pinot noir is a wonderful accompaniment to filet mignon or any prime steak, with its smooth, rich body. How did I happen upon Smoking Loon? Its name! I had never tasted anything of Smoking Loon, but when I was in the liquor store, I broke out laughing and just had to buy a bottle of red and a bottle of white. Best decision ever!
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:04 pm
I use wine in almost every dish I make - even something as simple as macaroni and cheese takes on a whole new dimension with the addition of a little wine.
We are chianti drinkers for the most part.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:12 pm
I LOVE Chateau St. Michelle Reisling. My ex and I drink it at least once a week (still), just to relax after a hard week!
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Wow what a unique Idea to display wine. I would love this.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
My favorite wine is Silverado Merlot. I first tried it when the 1991 vintage was released and I happened to be visiting CA. I just love its smooth, fruity, rich flavor. But it’s expensive and it’s not something I can buy regularly.
My favorite things to pair it with are bread, cheese, fruit and chocolate - all on one big plate. I’m a nibble and sip kind of person.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:06 pm
I like red wines, merlot and such, the holder would be nice to have.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Those are so cool, I would love them!
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
That’s are cool wine bottle holder! It would be a fun conversation starter at our next party! My favorite wine is a french Cote D’Rhone red wine. If you get a good bottle, it’s like drinking silk… so smooth and soft on the palette. You can buy a good bottle for fairly cheap. I recommend the Barton et Guestier (known as B and G) brand.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Swedish Hill Svenska Red. It’s a sweet table wine, I enjoy a glass at bedtime to help me relax.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:51 pm
I have never seen anything like this before…looks like it defies gravity! My favorite wine is “Balet of Angels” from the Sharpe Vineyards in CT. My favorite way to enjoy it is with a nice Swiss cheese and…believe it or not…thin gingersnaps! That sounds like an odd combination, but try it sometimes! And the best place to have this special treat is on my back deck!
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:34 am
Zinfandel
April 23rd, 2008 at 1:00 am
Personally, I haven’t discovered one I like. The Arbor Mists are ok, but my FIL is devoloping a passion for wine and has a chart on his refrigerator of all the wines he’s tried, liked, and the ones left he wants to try. This would be a wonderful Father’s Day present from his best daughter-in-law haha. He would really love this. I would too for my Sparkling Grape Juice! I would give him 2 and keep one for my juice
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:18 am
I love Gallo’s Moscato wine, oh yummy!
Those have to be the coolest wine holders ever.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:26 am
One of my favorite wines (there are sooo many) is Santa Ema Reserve Merlot. I buy it at Costco. And I think it goes with anything or just by itself.
The wine holder looks great, I know it would get a lot of use in my house.
Thanks for the great gift!
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:44 am
not a big wine drinker. Do like Niagra Wine from the Niagra New York region. Tastes like grape soda.
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:08 am
Love red wines and antioxidants
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:11 am
The best wine always seems to be the one I’m drinking!
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:47 am
I LOVE the wines from Apple Barn Winery in Tennessee! They are all made with APPLES instead of grapes! Not all of them are sweet (most people assume they are), but I really love their Apple Raspberry Wine because it has a very nice tart/sweet flavor.
I also love all the local wines here in the Yadkin Valley Wine Region of North carolina. Shelton Vineyards has an AMAZING Reisling!
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:50 am
I never liked wine too much, until the Old North State Winery opened in downtown Mt. Airy, NC. They were one of the first co-op wineries in NC, and even though they are no longer a co-op, they still make great, and very inexpensive wines! All are under $15, yet they have the quality of much more expensive brands. Supposedly, when they building they are in was being renovated years ago, they found the arm and hand bones of a person who died years ago! No one ever knew who it was, or what happened, but there are many stories about strange noises and an eerie presence in the downstairs barrel room. Because of all this, they named one of their red wines RESTLESS SOUL, and it is very good!
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:51 am
Hello! I’m sorry, I typed in the wrong email address in my previous comment - so please use this one instead!

I love Shiraz but have to be very careful how much I drink. I once had a few glasses and spent three hours trying to decorate one Christmas ornament. Thank you for the fun contest!
April 23rd, 2008 at 5:59 am
My husband and I are wine fanatics, and we are very partial to the local vineyards in our home state of Maryland. Our current favorite is from St. Michaels Winery, a little vineyard on the Eastern Shore. The wine is called Gollywobbler White, and it was new at the 2007 Autumn Wine Festival. It is the sweetest, cleanest, smoothest wine we have ever tasted. Simply yummy!
April 23rd, 2008 at 6:23 am
love local wines and especially my neighbors”
April 23rd, 2008 at 6:58 am
ok, my fav wine is Two Princes Riesling 2004. my husband and i discovered it when we went on a trip to Disneyworld in 2005, during the Epcot Food and Wine festival. we LOVED it, but haven’t been able to find it since. so i would appreciate it if anyone knows where i can get it in the US - it’s German
April 23rd, 2008 at 7:24 am
We love Merlot! My husband is really getting into wine so he would love to have this distinctive holder!
April 23rd, 2008 at 11:19 am
I’m a big fan of Banrock Station’s Chardonnay but I’d love to try the Riesling. The Chardonnay goes great with grilled chicken, red peppers, corn on the cob and thick French bread with lots of butter! The best part is it costs less than $5 at Walmart!!! Sure doesn’t taste like it!
Another great one - and this is a new discovery - but the Wine Cube from Target. I’ve had the Riesling although I can’t find it anymore. Anyway, it’s very reasonable! You get 2 bottles worth for the price of one moderately priced bottle. It takes up less room and stays fresh for a long time!
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I love Kenwood Vineyards Reserve-Massara Merlot, Sonoma 2000. It is a little bit pricier than other wines, but it has a very deep, rich, and smooth texture and flavor. It’s one of my favorites. Thanks for the giveaway!
April 23rd, 2008 at 7:40 pm
My husband and I have a small vineyard and make our own! Its a lot of work, and I found out the acid of grapes eats away at my hands, but it always turns out really good!
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Actually, I’m a total wine novice but my brother-in-law and his wife have been slowly introducing my husband and I to the great wide world of wine! I would love to win these as a gift to them!
April 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Berringer. It is reasonalby priced and good!
April 24th, 2008 at 1:55 am
I love Delicato wines. They are a vineyard outside of Manteca, CA. My husband’s from Manteca and we had lots of there delicious wines only available at the vineyard for our wedding.
April 24th, 2008 at 1:58 am
no doubt - Ollie by Novy winery in California
April 24th, 2008 at 2:53 am
GREAT giveaway!
I have been wanting one of these wine holders for awhile now!
My newest favorite wine is Sagelands Cabernet Sauvignon
http://www.winesnw.com/sagelandsvineyard.htm
It is just plain good, nice full body but not over powering. Great with just about anything. We eat a lot of red meats so it is always a perfect accompaniment. Though it is excellent with cheese and crackers.
Hey, if you have a chance, please stop by and visit my contest page too!

April 24th, 2008 at 8:20 am
We found a new wine for us, pomegranite, (spelling?), We like to have it with pasta that has a really spicy sauce. It averages out.
April 24th, 2008 at 9:11 am
Well we bottle our own red, so I’ll go with white.
One of my current favorites is Pelee Island’s Gewurztraminer. It’s a bit fruity, and very light. Not too sweet. A perfect summer wine! I’d easily pair it with a chicken dish, or a fruity salad. Better yet - dessert! I also love that it’s an Ontario wine, I generally try to buy as local as possible.
April 24th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
My current favorite is Berringer’s White Zinfadel, a California wine. My mom brought a bottle over for my birthday a few years ago and I have loved it ever since. I try different Zinfadel wines when I am out to dinner but I always come back to Berringers.
April 24th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
We are still trying to find the perfect wine but there are some excellent ones made in the state of NC and they go with everything
April 24th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I’ve always been a big fan of anything Reisling (German especially) but after a recent trip to France, French red wine is really growing on me!

I love a Rosemount Shiraz. It’s has a sweet flowery undertones, and it goes well with hearty pasta. What’s not to love?
April 24th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
These wine holders are a great idea!
April 24th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
My husband and I are new to drinking wine and we were introduced to Yellow Tail Cabernet Merlot & Pinot Grigio Cavit and so far we enjoy them very much!!!!! We bought bottles immediately to have at our home. Now we want to buy a wine rack and maybe have a wine refrigerator. This would be a perfect start to our new found hobby!!!
April 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
this is so neat it would go good with my wine rack
April 25th, 2008 at 5:59 am
Years ago, my husband and I were invited to a swanky restaurant by a salesman and his wife. He was trying to land my husband’s account.
I was young and inexperienced and totally put on the spot when I was asked to select the wine to go with our steak dinners. The wine list was extensive. I nearly panicked until I saw a name I recognized - Pinot Noir. I’d never had it before, but I’d heard the name.
So that’s what I told the waiter to bring. Turned out it was PERFECT with steaks. Also turned out that the salesman and his wife were not wine drinkers at all and didn’t have a clue what to order, so they were really counting on me to pull it off.
I’ve never forgotten that experience and to this day I prefer a nice Pinot Noir with a steak.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:33 am
my favorite wine is Rutherford Grove’s Savinguan Blanc… crisp and fruity (a lot of pear). It goes wonderfully with a pasta and white sauce.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:48 am
I have a mini-bar in my house, so we’re pretty big wine fans here. There are two I love. One is called (don’t laugh!) Vampire wine. The only place I can find it is Meijer around Halloween. Some years they don’t even have it. Anyhow, this is a great wine. It’s got a very sweet taste to it. While it doesn’t advertise as a dessert wine, it certainly seemed that way to me. I also like the Barefoot Blush. It’s got a light crisp taste to it that goes well with most meals. Plus, I’ve hit paydirt, Trader Joe’s sells it for two dollars less than anywhere else! BTW, have you tried Cupcake wine? I’ve seen it advertised in the Cost Plus ad and would love to try it, but I’d like to get some feedback from those who have. Thanks.

While on a trip to the Russian River Valley, inquired about nice restaurants. Among others, the John Ash restaurant was suggested. Not knowing at the time who he was, we went. Asked the sommelier for a wine suggestion. Immediately replied “J”. As with the restaurant, had never heard of the vineyard, but again, accepted the suggestion. Needless to say the dinner and wine were excellent! So now we have “J” selections shipped to us every other month.

April 26th, 2008 at 6:10 am
I’ll be honest. I don’t know enough about wine to have a favorite. My husband is the one that picks it out all the time so I just have what he’s having and I usually like it.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:08 am
Great giveaway!
Well, my husband makes wine with his brother and cousin, so that would be my favorite. But Barefoot wines come in a close second. They are so affordable! I really like the Cabernet, and just had some the other night with pasta with meat sauce and a ton of Parmesean cheese. Yum!
April 26th, 2008 at 10:18 am
We know enjoy a moderately priced California Merlot with our steaks, because great Cabernats now cost so much. We still have some fine Lafites, and Haut-Brions’ from the seventies in our celler for special occasions.

Hey everyone, it’s Jay Dacey from The Wine Holder. Say, I’ve done a special favor exclusively for Cookerati readers.
I’ve cut the price for the wine holders to only $9.95 but ONLY for this weekend. Come Monday morning the price is going back to normal.
I’ve turned off my ad words account because I don’t want anyone else able to get this same deal.
We have only 23 left in stock right now and 3 of them go to the winner of the contest, so they will probably go fast, there are over 80 comments already! That means only 1 in 4 will be able to buy.
If you are unhappy for any reason we do have a 110% money back gaurantee AND 10% of our sales are donated to a local non profit so you’re doing good too!
I look forward to your orders!

My favorite red wine to drink for an every night occasion is Vendange Cabernet, very inexpensive at less than $10 for the large bottle. Full body, big taste. For special occasions, I prefer the Guenoc Red table wine. I’ve tasted it, loved it, and now have it aging in my cellar.
