Bob’s Red Mill Team WON the Golden Spurtle Competition – Congrats to the first U.S. entrant and winner to the contest in Scotland. You guys Rock! American Matthew Cox has wrested the coveted Golden Spurtle trophy away from the Scots and claimed the title World Porridge Making Champion. A Scottish kitchen tool dating back to the 15th century, a spurtle is a rod-like stirring stick that is traditionally used to prevent porridge from becoming lumpy. - The National Mango Board is pairing up with Ingrid Hoffman to raise money for the Food and Finance High School in New York City. Watch the video of Ingrid Hoffmann preparing her recipe for Snapper Pockets with Mango-Cilantro Mojo and for every time it is viewed on the mango.org Web site or Mango.org YouTube Channel, the National Mango Board will donate $1, up to $5,000, to the Food and Finance High School. It’s worth a click, don’t you think?
- Edible Queens – a new magazine highlighting the food cultures of all the communities in Queens. When I was growing up in Elmhurst, Queens was called the melting pot of America due to the diversity of the area. If the magazine can capture the essence of all of the small pockets of nationalities throughout the borough, it should be fascinating. Live in the area? Find a free copy at many Queens locations. If you’re interested in a subscription delivered to your home, they have that too.
