Seven Items I’d Still Recommend For Christmas 2009

Written by Diana - December 3, 2009 7 Comments

I’ve done reviews during the year and I like doing the reviews, even though it means trying things out I might not be in the mood for. I always tell the truth about what I’ve feel and I don’t do things I object to, like cookie diets.  I’d like to tell you my favorite reviews of the year, the ones I liked the best.  These are also the things I still use on a regular basis because I found them so useful. These are items I reviewed between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009. They may not seem like the most elegant gifts, or the coolest, but these are the ones I use the most.

image Kyocera – Ceramics – These knives are fantastic, still very sharp and cut easily.  My mom was struggling with one of my old knives, I gave her one of the ceramics and she thought they were wonderful.  When I told her it was a review item, she said that she hoped I gave them a great review because they deserve it.

image Aroma Rice Cooker – I never thought I’d care if I had one of these since I made perfect rice(most of the time) without it. However, I found I could have perfect rice every time if I used the rice cooker.  My friend said he read about making steel cut oats with a rice cooker.  I might just try that one out.

image Cloth Napkins – Never going back to paper.  Cloth napkins are wonderful.

image CDN DUAL-SENSING PROBE THERMOMETER/TIMER – Best thing for a grillmeister because you can tell when the meat is ready, but not overcooked.

image  Pourfect Mixing and Measuring bowls and spoons. – Very sturdy and functional.

My two favorite books that I’d recommend again are:

image The Old Farmer’s Almanac Everyday Cookbook

image The Christmas Table

Does the rice cooker steam the rice or boil? I tried a really cheap small one before and it just boiled the rice leaving it a little bit burnt and crispy on the bottom. Since then I’ve just stuck with the pot method. I would love to find one that steamed the rice or at least cooked it properly. :p

I love, love, love my rice cooker. I got the same model you have above to review this summer, and I’ve used it to cook tons of different things (even rice once or twice, ha).

    Andrea,

If you follow the directions, it won’t burn and be crusty, I promise. It boils, doesn’t steam, but it has a sensor that puts it on warm at a certain point. I even make rice in big batches and freeze for later because it does such a great job.
Natasha – I always ask for things I need in the kitchen. I still have more to recommend to the readers, but I like useful stuff.

Linette – have you ever tried steel cut oats?

I need a rice cooker I think, it’s a hit or miss on the stove most of the time. I have a microwave one also, but again sometimes I’ve had problems with that too. The biggest problem is that I use different types of rice I think.

    Robyn,
The direction book will tell you how much water and what setting to put your different types of rice at. Plus you can use it as a steamer. I make big batches of rice, then freeze dinner size portions to pull out as needed.
