What I want for Mother’s Day (and every day after that).

The things I really want for Mother’s Day are things you can’t buy. The hug and the kiss, and the I love you mom’s are wonderful. The appreciation, that’s great too. How about this…
These cost nothing, and yet will be appreciated by all mothers.
After you finish your drink, rinse out the cup and put it in the dish drain to dry. Do the same after eating off of a plate or a cup, or using utensils, or a pot or a pan.
If the dishwasher is full of dirty dishes, if you just put the last cup that will fit into it, put in the soap and run it. Don’t pile the dishes up in the sink while it sits and waits for me to discover it.
Then if you need to put a dish into the dishwasher and it’s full, put everything in it away and then put the dish into the dishwasher.
If you spill jelly onto the floor, wipe it up. Don’t use the dishrag though and then put it back for me to use on the dishes, please.
After you use the stove, and it cools, clean up the mess, in fact any time you cook or prepare, clean up when you are done.
If you make popcorn, dump the old maids into the composter and throw away the bag. Really, I don’t need you to save it for me.
Every once in a while, wipe the window behind the kitchen sink down so that it is clear of all the dried drips from when you wash the dishes (if you wash the dishes).
After dinner, graciously say – “That was a good meal mom, Thanks”.
Wait a little bit after I get home to ask me what we are having for dinner, don’t ask as I walk in the door.
If you take your bowl of cereal outside to eat while waiting for the bus, bring it in later, don’t wait until we run out of dishes.
The same goes with dishes and cups in the room, bring them out – I don’t want to go hunting for them.
Don’t put the milk into the fridge with a drop left. Drink the drop, crush the container and stick it into the garbage or recycling.
When you search through all of the containers in the fridge for just the right leftover snack – put the lid back on snug and tight.
My favorite might be – if you take out the garbage without me having to tell you, in fact, if you do any of the above without me noticing first, that would be really cool.
Being a mom is cool, really cool, and when I go to their home and see them do all of these things, I’ll be so proud, because it means I did my job right. What about you, what would you like for Mother’s day and every day after that?
