Win Sauce …and A Microwave from Bertolli
Written by Deb - December 9, 2008 488 CommentsBertolli has a line of premium sauces that dress up the spaghetti a lot nicer than your regular Ragu. With varieties such as Summer Crushed Tomato and Basil and Champignon and Portobello Mushroom, you almost feel as if you’re eating at a bistro instead of your kitchen table. My husband and I enjoy the Sun Ripened Tomato with Olives, by the way – we think it’s great on tortellini.
What I love most about these sauces is their convenience. I don’t have to dirty pots and pans, I simply microwave the pouch and we’re good to go. So…great tasting specialty sauce in a microwave pouch. Yeah, I’m digging that.
Bertolii wants you to dig it too! They’re giving away three pouches of Bertolli sauce to a lucky Cookerati winner. And to make sure you get the full effect, they’ll even toss in the microwave. Sweet! This is a $100 value so if your husband gets you some lame Christmas present like a paper shredder (No dear, I’m still not over it) you’ll at least have this to make up for it.
OK, you know me. I need my rules and regs and today is no exception. I always believe when a generous sponsor is involved, we need to offer props. So, I’d like you to show your support by dropping by the Bertolli website and telling us what sauce you’d like to try – and how you will make it. For instance, will you use it over pasta and if so, what kind? Will you use it as a dipping sauce? If so, what will be dunked? Go wild and use your imagination. Creativity counts,
The contest ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m. Be there or be square.
(And if you think this week’s and last week’s contests were awesome, just wait to see what’s in store for next week!)
Here are the deets on the microwave:
GE – Model JES1142WD microwave with the following features (valued at $100):– 1.1 cu. ft. capacity — 1,100 Watts (IEC-705 test procedure)
– Convenience cooking controls — Allows cooking and reheating at the touch of a button
– Auto and Time Defrost — Automatically defrosts for a specified amount of time
– Turntable — Continually rotates food to ensure even cooking
– Timer On/Off — Optional reminder signals when meals are done
– Child lock out — Enables you to lock the keypad to prevent the oven from being accidentally started
Good luck!

I’d like to try the “Summer Crushed Tomato and Basil” I’d add a few more ingredients and mix with cooked ground beef to try and make an easier taco filling. Throw on some lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and avacados in a taco shell and dinners served.
sandy on December 9, 2008 at 5:46 am
Oh these look yummy and over noodle would be great but how about over some turkey sausage and potatoe bits. I like the idea of squeezing some into a baked potato and adding a little cheese and having a pizza potato. I bet these would be good over any pasta, egg noodles or minispirals. My kids could make minipizzas easier with any bread thats in the house but I love the fact if my husband wants sauce for vegtable dips or for making a quick pizza pocket he can do it, no cans, no mess, open the pita and pour the items in and pour the hot sauce in and a hot pocket- ham or cheese or whatever deli meat is in there and makes it easy. I have made these and did not have tomato soup in th e cupboard and added milk and warmed again and a few spices and it tastes like a fancy tomato soup(don’t tell anyone you cheated). This stuff is versatile and handy for alot of reasons..take on camping trips, or for car trips where there is a hotel in the room because you can make soup, dipping sauces, or rice and pasta mixes ( minute rice in the microwave drained and this mixed and if you want to add – get some tuna in a bag or chicken in a bag- you know the shelved stuff) and you have a hot meal in a hotel room instead of unhealthy fats. Yep I carry silverware and microwave bowls with me on trips! I spend alot of time on the road sometimes, and the time and money spent in restaunts is just not worth it, and prefer to sit in the room and calm down with the roomie and save money and rest or have more time to shop real bargains.

Hey Deb, just so you know. I gave my husband a paper shredder for his birthday one year and it’s a great gift. I spent the money and got a nice one that had a nice looking basket. Some times useful things are good. Actually, as long as we make enough salsa to last 6 months, he’s a pretty happy guy. I guess it must be the secret ingredients.
Joe on December 9, 2008 at 7:31 am
I’d use the Summer Crushed Tomato and Basil. I’d just heat it and put it on top of some thin spaghetti.
Carol on December 9, 2008 at 7:34 am
I’m half Italian, so I would take the Sun-dried Tomatoes with Olives Sauce by Bertolli and “doctor it up” my style. First, I’d saute a little garlic and very finely chopped onion in some olive oil, and I add the Bertolli Sauce and a few teaspoons of my homemade pesto. Then as that was simmering, I’d make a nice Gemelli pasta or Farfalle. I use only Locatelli grated cheese, and that goes right on top. Can you tell I love to eat! I really want to win too!
ky2here on December 9, 2008 at 7:36 am
I’ll use the portabello sauce as a bruschetta base. I’ll look like a fool firing up the grill on these blustery cold days but I don’t care. We grill year round.

Joseph on December 9, 2008 at 8:13 am
I would like to try the Bertolli Champignon & Portobello Mushroom Premium Pasta Sauce with Baked Chicken Wings.
You will need about 2 lbs of Chicken Wings, 2 tbsp of olive oil – sear the chicken over medium heat in the olive oil about 5-10 minutes each side or until browned. (You may also bake Chicken Wings in the oven 350 covered for about 15-20 minutes) Either way the chicken meat should fall off the bone once cooked. Place your Berotti Champignon & Portobello Mushroom Premium Pasta Sauce in the microwave – 90 seconds – pour over your Chicken Wings and serve.
Add a toasted baguette or ciabatta bread sliced diagonal with your favorite cheese (ex:mozzarella) melted on top- sprinkled with a dash of oregano or mixed herbs as a side. (Always good for soaking up the pasta sauce on the plate)

1 bottle of Bertolli Olive Oil and Garlic
2 1/2 cups tomato juice
2 ripe tomatoes, chopped
1 purple onion, finely chopped
1 cucumber, peeled and chopped
1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
4 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
2 Tbsp chopped fresh oregano
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
2 Tbsp lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
6 (or more) drops of Tabasco sauce
Combine all ingredients. Blend slightly to desired consistency. Place in covered plastic storage container and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to blend.

As the mom/granny in a household of sons, daughters/in-law, daughters and grandaughters I am the chief cook-and-bottle-washer and trying to keep up with them as they all work different shifts and granddaughters have school and after-school activities is always a race to be one leap ahead of demand and I would surely add these delicious sauces (I don’t need to speify because all Bertolli sauces are delicious) to my long list of last minute and on demand dishes as well as to those dishes (lasagna is top on that list) which I cook on Sundays when apparence at dinner table is compulsory except in cases of imminent death or winning the lottery.

Tammy Kennedy on December 13, 2008 at 10:12 am
When I was gone to my sons home due to the birth of their first child, I came home and found one of the Bertolli sauces in my cupboard, can you believe my husband had bought product to try. He had gotten the summer crushed tomato and basil I used the sauce instead of pizza sauce to make my kids favorite pizza bagels. now I want to try the champignon portobello pasta sauce, to use as a sauce for making a roast in my crock pot. I’m going to get a big roast and take olive oil onions and mushrooms and saute in a skillet till browned, then I will add roast to skillet and brown nicely on both sides then will remove contents of skillet and put into my crock pot where I will also add 2 bags of the champignon portobello pasta sauce and cook on low heat for about 3 hours or until meat is able to be shredded then I will use to make sandwiches on onion buns. Served with potato’s halfed and covered in cheese and chive and bacon bits.
Thank you for a chance to be a winner.
Happy Holidays

I would love to try the Sun Ripened Tomato & Olive Pasta Sauce Pouch with my favorite budget meal. I cube chicken, cook till done with a little garlic, pour in the the Bertolli sauce, spoon over angel hair pasta and top with mozzerella cheese…it is soooo yummy and it is quick, easy…and easy on the budget! It also makes a large dish so really all you need to do is serve it with garlic bread, breadsticks or salad. Feeds our family of 4 with left overs and I have to say that the leftovers I love, the sauce has time to marry all the other flavors.
Thank you for the chance to win this fantastic prize and thank you to Bertolli
Happy Holidays

Christie on December 13, 2008 at 3:17 pm
I would use the Tomato and Basil Bertolli sauce over cheese ravioli. Actually I already do that for a quick dinner. I just use frozen cheese ravioli, frozen breaded chicken patties, Bertolli sauce and shredded Italian cheese to make a Chicken Parmisan and Cheese Ravioli dinner.
Suzanne on December 13, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Mmmmm so much I would do with these flavors! First I would use the Sun Ripened Tomato & Olive as pizza sauce. For years I have made my own homemade pizza dough but it has been always hard to find a perfect sauce but the Tomato & Olive would be great and lend just the right base for all the other ingredients. I had been trying to combine spagetti sauces with olive oil anyway for a pizza sauce but Bertolli would make the flavor combination 10 times better than I could. It would also be great with garlic bread sticks for dipping. …Next I think the Summer Crushed Tomato & Basil would be used for pasta and meatballs. I love a good blend of basil with my pastas. …The most exciting one to me is the Champignon & Portobello Mushroom Sauce. How my family loves, loves, loves mushrooms. This would be so spectacular in my Calzones. I make a variety of calzones for parties and for the freezer quite a bit. They make a great fast meal and satisfies most everyone. This sauce would definitely replace my current sauce as it is so much more appropriate from what I have been using. I make Italian sausage, pepperoni, shredded chicken, shredded pork, stripped steak and vegetarian calzones and it would be mesh fabulous with each main ingredient. My personal favorite is the vegetarian calzone and mmmm I can just taste it with the zucchinis and roasted peppers right now. Oh these sauces would really add and improve what I do make now and not to mention the ease of it too. I had even once tried to make my own homemade sauces but I could just never seem to get the right spicing. It always seemed like bad ketchup to me. I always appreciate a good product that can do what I cannot.

Bertolli makes the most savory sauces! Last night in fact I used their jared Alfredo Sauce to make a Shrimp and Angel Hair Pasta Alfredo! The entire family ate every last bit of it! These new Bertolli Microwave sauces sound fabulous! I would like to use the Sun Ripened Tomato with Olive Sauce to make my famous Vegetable Lasagna! I don’t use a recipe, I just layer the lasagna noodles with the sauce, and in this case it would be the Sun Ripened Tomato with Olive sauce, and I layer zucchini, fresh tomatoes, onions, sweet red peppers, fresh spinach, fresh garlic, riccotta cheese, mozzarella cheese and a secret ingredient I cannot disclose (LOL) and bake it! When I make this people rave about it! I can only imagine how incredibly delicious it will be if I use the Bertolli Sun Ripened Tomato with Olive Sauce for the first time. It will probably put everyone over the edge in total Ecstasy! Thank you so much for the opportunity to enter this delicious giveaway! Happy Holidays to all!

During the summer months, I grill eggplant slices that are bathed in olive oil and sprinkled with herbs and garlic. I freeze the slices in packets of foil for winter meals, and my favorite way to use them is with Bertolli’s Summer Crushed Tomato and Basil. I add the thawed eggplant slices, which I cut up with a kitchen shears and simmer them in the Bertolli sauce. For a more Mediterranean flavor, it’s tasy using Bertolli’s Sun Ripened Tomato and Olive Sauce. This meatless creation is a hearty sauce that is enjoyed over Jasmine rice or fettucine!
